World War Two was just two decades after World War One. This war is considered the most deadliest war in history. It involved more than 30 countries and ended in some estimates of 85 million people dead. The cause of the war was Adolf Hitler invading Poland in 1939. The war lasted six years. WWII was a war America did not have a part in for a few years. On December 7, 1941 just minutes before 8 am Japaneses fighter jets flew above Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor is just off the coast of Honolulu, Hawaii. They dropped bombs in the harbor. The Japanese destroyed 18 American navy ships. This including eight large battleships. They also destroyed almost 300 airplanes. In this attack 2,500 Americans citizens and soldiers died leaving another 1,000 people wounded. The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor December 8, 1941 President Franklin Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan. Congress approved the war with only one person disagreeing. Three days after we declared war on Japan, two of Japans allies declared war on American. These allies were Germany and Italy. Congress approved this war, also. More than two years into WWII America had joined the battle. The citizens of America were not surprised to see their country at war with Japan. America had been fighting with Japans for decades. Now, as a result the world was in conflict with each other.
