The war brought many opportunities to African Americans at home. Segregation in America started to change in July of 1948. Even though it did not really end until 1964 with the Civil Rights Act it was brought to attention in 1948. By this time segregation hit pop culture. Sam White wrote a song about discrimination and was later asked to preform at the White House. African Americans had independence for jobs during the war. This happened because of the job openings that the white women left at home could not do or was not enough to do he job. The end of the war brought hundreds of African Americans back home. Many African Americans when they got home did not go back to the South to work on the farm where they once had. Countless went to the city to look for jobs. This resulted in troubling finding work. In most industries African American women and men were pressured to quit their jobs. Society, soldiers and company executives to give their jobs to white veterans of the war. This was thought of as a step back to African Americans at the home front. The home front African Americans joined with African American war veterans to end discrimination in American jobs, society, and housing.
